Fueling Dreams One Cup at a Time
Ever the creative child, Jordan often found her dreams were viewed by others as too grandiose. Doris Day’s Hollywood version of Calamity Jane inspired the young girl to continue pushing the bounds of her imagination. While watching “Calamity Jane,” Jordan imagined herself to be a Broadway star, or a sharpshooting horseback rider, either way, she believed she could be important. She was also aware of the power “Calamity Jane” had over her grandparents. They sang “Secret Love” alongside Ms. Day, and looked at each other as though they were falling in love for the first time—it was “their” song and it always transported them to the young people who dreamed of moving from their small town and raising a family.
Calamity’s Coffee is a celebration of the power of dreaming too big and sharing those dreams with loved ones.
We believe that coffee and tea can stir the imagination and build community. Oak Ridge is full of incredibly talented people and Calamity’s hopes to recognize overlooked leaders. We encourage our patrons to nominate people who do outstanding work (be they employed at a grocery store or hospital, volunteer or just have a really inspirational story). Winners will receive $25 worth of free drinks. They will also be prominently featured on our website and social media platforms. Click here to nominate someone you believe deserves recognition.
The real Calamity Jane (Martha Jane Canary) was known not only for her wild side, but also for nursing the ill, and Doris Day was a huge advocate for animal health and welfare. In keeping with their missions, Calamity’s Coffee is especially interested in working alongside those in healthcare (including those in mental health and veterinary medicine), and animal welfare organizations.
Calamity’s is focused on creating a business model built around the idea that every customer should receive the highest quality products and services. That is why we work alongside other small and/or local businesses to give customers a unique experience that only Oak Ridge has to offer.
